Built by gelato experts,
for gelato makers

GelatoLab was born from a simple idea: the tools that professional gelato makers need shouldn't be locked away in spreadsheets and notebooks. We wanted to build something better — a platform that combines real gelato expertise with modern software.

Where It Started

Morgan and Jordan Morano at the Morano Gelato shop in Chestnut Hill

Before GelatoLab, there was a farmers' market.

In 2010, we launched our first gelato business, Morano Gelato, together at the farmers' market in Hanover, New Hampshire. What started with a small portable freezer, a handful of flavors, and a lot of hard work eventually grew into two brick-and-mortar stores, a franchise, years of hands-on experience making gelato, consulting with businesses, and helping others learn the craft.

Along the way, Jordan built a career in software development, ultimately leading teams as a full-stack developer, while Morgan continued to grow her expertise in gelato production, consulting, and education.

Today, GelatoLab brings together everything we've learned along the way — from real-world gelato operations to thoughtful software design — into a platform built specifically for the gelato industry.

Our Mission

We believe that better tools make better gelato. Our mission is to give every maker — from home hobbyists to professional kitchens — access to the formulation insights and workflow tools that were previously only available through years of hands-on experience.

What We Believe

  • Precision matters. Gelato is science and art. Understanding the numbers behind your recipe — solids, fats, sugars, sweetening power — and starting with well-balanced base recipes is what separates good gelato from great gelato.
  • Knowledge should be accessible. Professional formulation techniques and foundational base recipes shouldn't be gatekept. Every maker deserves tools that help them understand and improve their craft.
  • Guidance, not autopilot. Balance targets and recommendations are built on real gelato-making expertise. The tools suggest and assist, but the maker is always in charge of the creative process.
